Matt Vinc – Signed by the Bandits in 2018
It seemed only fitting that Matt Vinc turned up in a Buffalo Bandits’ uniform after several years out of town. After all, he got his start in our city some years ago.
Vinc was something of an unlikely candidate to become the greatest goalie in indoor lacrosse history. He was an outdoor longstick defender at Canisius College. Vinc actually made Canadian national teams while playing defense on a part-time basis. It took him a year to become a regular, but settled in with the New York Titans in 2007. Eventually he landed in Rochester, and started a spectacular eight-year run with the Knighthawks in 2011.
Vinc became a free agent in the fall of 2018, and there were reports that the Knighthawks were preparing to move to Halifax in 2020. Vinc had a job in St. Catharines, Ont., and wasn’t too interested in commuting to Nova Scotia. The Bandits came along and offered him a long-term contract. Vinc didn’t miss a beat here, winning his seventh goaltender of the year award in 2019. He was doing fine in 2020 when the season was halted due to COVID-19. A championship in Buffalo down the road certainly would cause this rating to rise.
Let’s hear what Matt has been doing this summer:
