No. 97: June 26, 2015The Sabres trade a first-round draft choice in 2015 (Colin White) to Ottawa for Robin Lehner and David Legwand.

The Sabres knew they would be getting Jack Eichel with the second pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. But they also had a pick later in the first round obtained from the New York Islanders. General manager Tim Murray was starting from almost scratch as he rebuilt the roster, and he needed a veteran goaltender.

That’s why the Sabres sent that first-round selection to Ottawa. Robin Lehner was only 24 at that point in his career and had shown some promise with the Senators. David Legwand came along in the deal to supply some experience.

Lehner had some issues on and off the ice here in Buffalo, and didn’t quite fulfill his potential here. He jumped to the Islanders last summer, and was a standout in goal for New York in 2018-19 in helping that team reach the playoffs.
