Alex Neutz: Football & Depression, Pressure & Painkillers
A Buffalo Sports Page Podcast
It was the third day of the 2014 NFL Draft. UB standout and Grand Island native Alex Neutz had his family gathered to watch, and see if he’d be picked by an NFL team. As one of the Bulls all time leading receivers and a Mid-American Conference star, there’s a chance he would be.
Everyone wanted to hear his name called. Except Alex Neutz.
Alex was hoping he wouldn’t be picked, or even signed as a free agent. Ending his football career would end his pain.
It’s a gripping story of how a sport America loves was exactly the opposite for Neutz. The pressure to perform, the pressure to live up to everyone’s standards, led Alex down a road of depression and addiction to painkillers.
Now, he’ s revealing the details of his struggle. It started with a Twitter posting last week.
I guess it’s time to share my story, whether it helps one person or a thousand I owe it to each one.

Then, Alex joined Paul Peck & Kevin Sylvester for a very special Buffalo Sports Page podcast.
