MR. OVER/UNDER: 7-Point Teaser- Dallas +1.5, Arizona Even
We mentioned last week that usually the defense has an advantage the first 3-4 weeks of the NFL season. That was apparent last week as only 4 games went over. Plus only 9 of the favorites covered. Odds makers sometimes over compensate in week 2, by over reacting to the results of week 1. That’s why this week, I’m going to play a 2-team, 7-point teaser.
I’m taking two teams that should win outright, but giving myself the added points, just to play it safe. I won’t win as much, taking the added points, but it’s better than losing. Dak Prescott is 13-2 in his career against the Giants, and should be able to put plenty of points on the board. Carolina is 1-13 on the road with Bryce Young as their QB, losing 10 of those games by at least 7-points. I’m going to parley the Cowboys and the Cardinals on a 7-point teaser.
Man in Stripes: 6 point teaser- Bills -0.5/ Pats +7.5
Before you ask.. I STAYED THE ENTIRE GAME on Sunday night!! Maybe, the greatest regular season game in Highmark Stadium, too 5 sporting event I've been to. Easy winner too, ( how did the Bills win???). Lets keep it rolling, tough card this week, we will stay with a teaser and JA 17!! Let's tease Bills to -0.5, we go thought key numbers of 6, and 3, so they just need to win. Jets should have beat the Steelers, and ran ball well, Bills D has to play better, it will be close, but Bills find a way again. And let's pair that up with Pats +7.5, again teasing it through 3,6 and 7. Both teams coming off losses, looked like Dolphins quit on Mc Daniels in Indy , reports say there are problems ALREADY in the locker room ,and the home crowd will be all over them, if this goes sideways for the Fish. Mike Vrabel will have Pats ready, Drake Maye should have success against this porous Dolphin defense. This game smells 3-point game. The loser is in deep trouble in the division. Good luck and enjoy the games
Mono: K-State -1.5 over Arizona Friday Night
I may regret this one, but it’s on my mind and I have to jump on it. We’re going to Friday night lights for week 2 of picks and backing the Kansas State Wildcats -1.5 @ Arizona. K State is off to a BRUTAL start to their season. The loss to Iowa State in Dublin has them 0-1 already in conference play and after sneaking by North Dakota, they lost to Army on their home field as 16.5 point favorites. Avery Johnson has looked awful so far and the defense can’t stop anyone. This team was predicted by many in the preseason to be in Big 12 title contention and they cannot afford an 0-2 start in conference play. Enter the Arizona Wildcats, winners of their first 2 games, beating Hawaii and stomping Weber State last weekend. Noah Fifita is still under center for Arizona and appears to not have missed a beat without #8 Tet MacMillan. He didn’t have to do much against Hawaii and aired it out last week against Weber. This is the Big 12 opener for Zona but it will be a tough test. Arizona has looked good so far, but K State is not Hawaii or Weber State. With 2 losses already on the season, Kansas State is going to be in desperation mode for at least the next month and they need to win the games they’re supposed to. Klieman is too good of a coach to lose this locker room and the season before the end of September. K State has had their wake up call and answers the bell on the road on Friday night.
Brutal: Cal +2.5 over Minnesota
The only matchup in all of College Football that features a Battle of North American Mammals both adjectively described as resembling the color of atomic number 79. Yes, this classic Big Ten-ACC (sarcasm intended) scheduling is possibly one of the better matchups of the college football weekend that will receive absolutely zero National Media attention. Minnesota comes in after first, an uninspired 23-10 victory over the UB Bulls; a game in which they easily could have lost; then they waxed pathetic Northwestern State 66-0 in a game that should never have been allowed to be played let alone count towards Bowl eligibility. California on the other hand had a dominating win over Oregon State and a systematic tune-up over Texas Southern last week.
I've watched both teams this year and I think the difference will come down to the improving play of QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele (Bob Gaughan's worst nightmare is to have to call an entire college football game properly pronouncing entire rosters of exclusively Hawaiian and Polynesian players). I also think the CAL defense which is much improved over last season will have the edge over the reliable but very predictable offensive philosophy of the Golden Gophers that P.J Fleck brought to the Twin Cities after serving time in the MAC. CAL head coach Justin Wilcox knows that playbook because he was defensive coordinator at Wisconsin before taking over the Golden Bears top job eight years ago.
We are going to take the University, the City and the dark side of the San Francisco Bay Area that gave us College Campus sit-ins, the Hells Angels, the Black Panthers, the Zodiac Killer, Marshawn Lynch, 37 Nobel Prize winners and Steve Wozniak. This is Minnesota's first road game of the season, and I'm guessing that 60,000 plus liberal-leaning, Fairweather hippy sports fans will really get behind the 2-0 Bears in California Memorial Stadium on Saturday night and propel them on to victory. We are at home, getting points, take the GOLDEN URSINES.
Bob: UConn -9.5 over Delaware
UConn comes into this game in a bad mood after blowing a ten point fourth quarter lead last week in Syracuse. The Orange came back to win in overtime. This week the Huskies sign up to play 60 minutes. I really like how Jim Mora Jr has turned around this program. He has taken it from the bottom of college football to a 9-win season last year. Joe Fagnano is an experienced quarterback that leads the offense. Since the beginning of last year Fagnano has an efficient 23 TD’s to only 4 interceptions ratio. Cam Edwards has rushed for 190 so far in two games. This is a balanced attack that should be able to put up points against a Delaware team playing their first year at the FBS level. The Blue Hens were blown out 31-7 last week in Colorado. UConn was so bad for so long I think they are still flying a little under the radar with this spread being under 10.
